You Are Not Mine
Sound
Alt pop
Themes
Identity, Belonging, Home
Written following MYRY's acquisition of British citizenship, You Are Not Mine reflects on the complex relationship between identity, belonging and the places we call home. Its imagery of cities repeatedly built, destroyed and rebuilt evokes London as a place continually shaped by different generations, histories and cultures. The notion of ownership becomes increasingly elusive in a city where being an outsider may be one of its inhabitants' most universal experiences.
LYRICS
You started out The same As all the places You started out Empty Then they came and went again And they came and went again Again You are not mine You are not one thing, and no one Can really have you You are not mine With much skill You got burnt down and rebuilt You got burn down and rebuilt You are not mine You are not one thing, and no one Can really have you You are not mine You are the blood and tears Of thousands of years And I wish that I wanted you For love and not fear You are the blood and tears Of thousands of years And I wish that I wanted you For love and not fear
